Instead of the insignia of the 1922 model - cloth rhombuses, rectangles, squares and triangles sewn on the sleeve flap, insignia stamped from copper or brass, covered with red enamel, are installed: for the highest commanding personnel - rhombuses, for the senior - rectangles, for the middle - squares , and for the younger one - triangles. The sides of the insignia turned silver. Insignia worn on buttonholes, instead of codes indicating a military unit. By the resolution of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of September 22, 1935, personal military ranks were established for all military personnel. The same Resolution also introduced insignia for military ranks. From that moment on, wearing insignia according to service categories was prohibited. This resolution was put into effect by order of the People's Commissariat of Defense No. 176 of December 3, 1935. As insignia, insignia stamped from brass and covered with red enamel are installed: for the highest commanding personnel - rhombuses, for the senior - rectangles, for the middle - squares, and for the junior - triangles. The sides of the insignia remained brass-colored or golden. These insignia were worn on new-style buttonholes; for command personnel, they were edged with gilded braid 3-4 mm wide or with a thread of the same width. The buttonholes of commanding officers were trimmed with piping according to the branch of service. By a resolution of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR dated July 10, 1937, the personnel of the NKVD were transferred to the system of insignia adopted by the Red Army. Depending on the time and place of production, insignia of the 1935 model could differ in appearance; it is traditionally believed that insignia with a narrow side are of earlier production, and those with a wide side are of later production.
